When a bug or glitch occurs in our video game we tend to hate it, like the time you got stuck in a rock or fell through the ground. Well the bugs and glitches I'm going to mention to you are the bugs and glitches that contributed to our video games!
The Konami Code (Gradius)
Developer realizing he had made the game way too hard, he decided to make the game easier by creating cheat codes, the player would pause the game and then enter these codes. They would activate multiple power ups, the developer later forgot to remove this. Now so many huge video games have adopted this like Grand theft Auto San Andreas and Saints Row.
Rocket Jumping (Quake)
Quake is a fast pase shooter but some players decided it wasn't fast enough and one of the ways the fast pase nature of Quake was improved is Rocket Jumping. The player would jump and fire a rocket under them, this made the player jump to even greater heights in any direction, it made the game a lot more difficult to track players and would overall increase the pase of Quake a lot more.
Combos (Street Fighter 2)
Be grateful for combos, before this bug appeared the fighting genre was very stale, repetitive and there was no way to mix things up. Street Fighter 2 was being bug tested and the developer stumbled onto something incredible, if you initiated an attack and then cancelled it by launching a different attack this would allow the player to strike their foe multiple times in one stream. The developer decided to leave this bug in the game and later became widely adopted by the game industry.
Wall Jumping And Multi Coin Blocks (Mario)
We all have heard of Mario ...or at least you should have ... I couldn't pick one bug over the other so I've decided to put them both down. Wall jumping is apparent in many games and this is thanks to Mario, if you timed it correctly Mario jumped onto a wall and then another jump would have Mario jump a lot higher , this enabled the player to get out of tight spots and dangerous situations. This was a major glitch, but once the studio got a lot of positive feedback from this they decided to leave it in there.
Coin block is another glorious bug, if you kept hitting certain a block the player would gain multiple coins from it, the developers then removed this but luckily they added it back in because they felt like this original bug gave the game that something.
Easter Egg (Adventure)
Easter eggs are now notorious in games these days and it's all thanks to one man. At the time the games studio Atari did not give credit but one man felt like that he wanted his name out there and decided to change video games forever. The programmer used a glitch called sprites flickering, he created a secret room which had his name flashing "Created by Warren Robinett".
By the time the games studio Atari found this it was too late for them to remove it. Even though they refused to give credit ,Atari sold this as a bonus feature called Easter Egg, talk about cash grabbing!
